In this post, I will be discussing the “Media reinforcement theory“. This suggests that the media is not fully responsible for establishing and/or changing the beliefs of people. The theory states that what is seen and heard from the media only serves to further support your personal beliefs. In the context of my magazine, this can relate to sports fans who have a certain bias towards or against a player. For instance, my magazine may focus on praising player X, which will reinforce the beliefs of fans who like player X. Conversely, if I write negatively about player X, it is unlikely that these fans’ opinions will change.
