Meaning of My Color Scheme

The color scheme for my magazine will be composed of red, blue, and white. I personally chose this scheme as it represents American Senior High School and our mascot, the Patriots. However, in my research, I discovered that these colors an compliment the content of my sports magazine.

RED:
In media, red can be used to portray power and importance ("the red carpet"). Outside the western world, red has different associations. such as prosperity, good luck and happiness. In design, red can be a powerful accent color. For this reason, it should be used in few instances. Brighter shades are more energetic, while darker shades are more powerful and elegant.

BLUE:
In media, blue can convey stability, calmness, and purpose. Bright shades can be refreshing and friendly, medium shades are more strong and reliable, and Dark blue are excellent for corporate sites/designs where strength and reliability are important. I plan to use blue as the main color, meaning it will be seen more than the other two colors.

WHITE:
In media, white can help to convey virtue, cleanliness, and simplicity. White is extremely flexible and can work with any color. Since it is extremely bright, I will use it in little segments, such as tag lines on the cover.

Overall, these colors can fulfill their design purposes for my sports magazine. They can represent players in certain lights and give readers a specific representation of said players.

Picking a Model for my Magazine.

Considering the fact that my magazine will center around sports, the models I will consider have to be student-athletes at my high school. The current idea for the magazine is a feature on one athlete and their experiences, so there no restrictions on their sport, gender, or age. Ultimately, I will choose an athlete who can fit their participation in my project into their schedule and best represent my magazine.

Influence of Media 5

This post focuses on “Representation” and what the word means in media. “Representation refers to the idea that everything we see/hear in the media has been constructed.” This can be seen in magazines, newspapers, radios, and other forms. For example, when news is being reported about a politician, it is a construct of that politician, not the real person. In representation, “codes” are also instrumental in media construction. Codes can range from language, color, clothing, and specific signs. In the instance of color, green may be associated with “environmentalism”, while pink is linked to femininity. These are some of the constructs behind color.
As it relates to my sports magazine, it will create a specific representation of an athlete. The use of photographs and color will create a specific representation of this athlete to a larger audience.

Influence of Media 4

In this post, I will be discussing the “Media reinforcement theory“. This suggests that the media is not fully responsible for establishing and/or changing the beliefs of people. The theory states that what is seen and heard from the media only serves to further support your personal beliefs. In the context of my magazine, this can relate to sports fans who have a certain bias towards or against a player. For instance, my magazine may focus on praising player X, which will reinforce the beliefs of fans who like player X. Conversely, if I write negatively about player X, it is unlikely that these fans’ opinions will change.
